Garrison Cemetery is a historical cemetery that lies on the banks of the River Cauvery. It is a well-known cemetery in the region because it is the final resting place of various European officers that died during the ‘Final Assault of Tipu Sultan’. There are 307 graves of the soldiers that belong to the Swiss Army as well. 80 graves belong to the European Army officers and their families. Presently, it is an inactive graveyard and is visited as a tourists’ site by numerous visitors.
It Is Known For:-
1) Garrison Cemetery is a cemetery that houses the various graves of the different dead soldiers that lost their lives battling the army of Tipu Sultan. Apart from soldiers, it also has the graves of the European senior personnel and their family members.
2) A majority of the graves belongs to the deceased Swiss soldiers that fought against Dutch East India Company in Ceylon (Sri Lanka).
3) This cemetery is the place that has the graves of Colonel Scott’s wife, Isabella Scott and her daughter.
4) Garrison Cemetery was used for a prolonged period of time and the last burial took place here.
