Dr. V Ganapati Sthapati was appointed as the architect of Thiruvalluvar Statue. The construction of the project employed 150 stone sculptors, assistants, and supervisors. The stonework and sculpting were divided into Ambasamudram, Kanyakumari, Sholinganallur. The longer stone slabs were used for carving the facial features of the statue. All workers spent fourteen to sixteen hours a day making the slabs smoother and carving them with precision. The entire construction has a budget of more than 61 million INR. The statue was unveiled on 1st January 2000.
