Gombe Stream is Tanzania's smallest national park but holds enormous scientific importance. It was here that Jane Goodall began her groundbreaking chimpanzee research in 1960, which revolutionized our understanding of primates. The park protects a thin strip of chimpanzee habitat along the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Approximately 100 chimpanzees live here, and visitors can trek into the forest to observe them in their natural habitat. Beyond chimpanzees, the park's diverse forest habitats support olive baboons, red-tailed monkeys, and a variety of forest birds. The crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika offer swimming and snorkeling opportunities.
