Rubondo Island is a hidden paradise in the southwestern corner of Lake Victoria. This little-known national park protects one of Africa's few remaining rainforest islands and offers a unique combination of forest, wetland, and lakeside habitats. The island was stocked with chimpanzees, elephants, giraffes, and other animals in the 1960s. Today, habituated chimpanzees can be tracked through the dense forest — a truly intimate primate experience. Rubondo is also famous for its sport fishing — the island's waters hold massive Nile perch, some weighing over 100 kg. Bird watching is exceptional with over 300 species recorded.
