Way 2 Africa Expeditions proudly presents the 1 Day Materuni Waterfalls and Coffee Experience, an immersive day trip combining natural beauty, cultural heritage, and soft adventure in northern Tanzania. Nestled in the lush, fertile foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro, Materuni Village is home to the Chagga people, one of Tanzania’s largest ethnic groups known for their rich traditions, agriculture, and hospitality. This tour offers travelers a unique opportunity to connect with local culture while exploring one of the region’s most iconic natural attractions, making it perfect for families, honeymooners, photographers, and nature enthusiasts.
Materuni Waterfalls, with a dramatic drop of approximately 80 meters, is one of the tallest waterfalls in the Kilimanjaro region. Surrounded by tropical vegetation, banana plantations, and coffee farms, the waterfall provides a breathtaking visual experience and a refreshing natural pool perfect for a swim. The hike to the waterfall is moderate, passing through traditional Chagga farmland and village paths, giving visitors a deep insight into rural life, sustainable farming, and local customs.
In addition to the waterfall hike, the tour features a hands-on Chagga coffee experience, where guests participate in the entire process of preparing coffee from bean to cup. Visitors learn traditional harvesting, drying, roasting, pounding, and brewing techniques while gaining insight into the central role coffee plays in the Chagga culture and economy. Alongside the coffee experience, a local lunch featuring traditional Tanzanian dishes allows guests to enjoy authentic flavors prepared by villagers.
This combination of nature, culture, and gastronomy creates a fully immersive and enriching day.
