Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival in Varanasi

    Morning: Arrival in Varanasi

Arrive in Varanasi, one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. The city, also known as Kashi or Banaras, is a spiritual hub where Hindu beliefs, rituals, and traditions come alive. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and rest for a while after your journey.

    Afternoon: Sarnath Visit

After lunch, embark on a short drive (about 10 kilometers) to Sarnath, a sacred Buddhist site where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon, known as the “Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta,” after attaining enlightenment in Bodh Gaya.

    Key Attractions in Sarnath:

Dhamek Stupa: This 43.6-meter-high stupa marks the exact spot where Buddha delivered his first sermon. Built initially by Ashoka and expanded over centuries, the stupa is a striking symbol of the spread of Buddhism. Walking around the stupa, visitors are often overcome by a sense of serenity and reflection.

Chaukhandi Stupa: This stupa marks the site where Buddha met his first disciples. The stupa is crowned by an octagonal tower built by the Mughals to commemorate the visit of Emperor Humayun.

Ashoka Pillar: Though now in ruins, the pillar erected by Emperor Ashoka marks his devotion to Buddhism. The Lion Capital, found at this site, is now India’s national emblem, and it’s housed in the Sarnath Archaeological Museum.

Sarnath Archaeological Museum: Explore an extensive collection of artifacts related to Buddhism. The museum’s highlight is the Lion Capital of Ashoka, along with other beautifully preserved sculptures and inscriptions that trace the history of Buddhism’s development.

Mulagandha Kuti Vihar: This modern temple is a key pilgrimage site in Sarnath. It contains murals and frescoes depicting important events from the life of Buddha. Pilgrims and visitors can also explore the ruins of ancient monasteries in the vicinity.

After exploring these spiritual and historical sites, return to Varanasi in the evening.

Evening: Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat

In the evening, experience the vibrant Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat. This daily ritual involves priests offering prayers to the Ganges River with lit lamps, incense, and mantras. The ceremony is mesmerizing, with hundreds of lamps floating on the river, accompanied by the chanting of hymns. This is a perfect moment to soak in the spirituality of Varanasi.

After the Aarti, return to your hotel for an overnight stay.

  • Day 2 : Varanasi Exploration

Early Morning: Sunrise Boat Ride on the Ganges

Begin the day with a sunrise boat ride along the Ganges. Watching the sun rise over the horizon while the ghats come alive with pilgrims performing their morning rituals is an unforgettable experience. The boat ride covers the famous ghats like Assi Ghat, Manikarnika Ghat (where cremations take place as part of Hindu belief in liberation), and Harishchandra Ghat.

    Visit to Kashi Vishwanath Temple

After the boat ride, visit the sacred Kashi Vishwanath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, making it highly revered in Hinduism. The temple is believed to liberate devotees from the cycle of birth and rebirth. Experience the powerful spiritual energy of this temple as you offer your prayers.

    Explore the Old City

Wander through the narrow, bustling lanes of the old city of Varanasi, where local life intertwines with spiritual devotion. The area is filled with street vendors, silk weavers, small temples, and local markets. Varanasi is renowned for its silk, so this is a great opportunity to pick up souvenirs like Benarasi silk sarees.

    Lunch at a Local Restaurant

Savor traditional North Indian or Banarasi cuisine at a local restaurant. Varanasi is famous for its street food, including kachori, jalebi, and banarasi paan.

Afternoon: Visit Banaras Hindu University (BHU)

After lunch, visit Banaras Hindu University (BHU), one of the largest and most prestigious educational institutions in India. The sprawling campus is home to the New Vishwanath Temple, which is a modern replica of the original Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

    Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum

Located on the BHU campus, the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts, including sculptures, paintings, textiles, and manuscripts, which provide insights into Indian culture and history.

    Evening: Stroll along the Ghats

Spend your evening strolling along the ghats. You can interact with local artisans, observe holy men (sadhus), and take in the evening atmosphere. Optional yoga or meditation sessions are available for those who want to experience a deeper connection with the spiritual ambiance of Varanasi.

    Return to Hotel

Return to your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

  • Day 3 : Departure from Varanasi

    Morning: Leisure and Departure

After breakfast, take some leisure time to relax or visit any missed attractions, like the Tulsi Manas Temple or the Durga Temple. Depending on your departure schedule, you can also revisit the ghats or shop for souvenirs before your transfer to the airport or railway station for your onward journey.
