Cambodia Overland Tour - 7 Days

Arrive in Phnom Penh and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon, visit some of Cambodia’s most remarkable sites, including the National Museum, the Silver Pagoda, the Royal Palace containing the Emerald Buddha statue and Phnom Penh’s oldest shrine, Wat Phnom. Overnight at hotel in Phnom Penh.

In the morning drive to Kratie (120km), a small town that has retained its colonial-era charm. Visit the bustling local market and see houses built in the traditional Khmer style. In the afternoon, continue along the river to see freshwater dolphins at Kampi pool. (The best time to see dolphins is during the dry season from January-August). On the way back to Kratie visit traditional riverside villages and enjoy a magnificent sunset along the riverbank. Overnight at the hotel in Kratie.

Morning excursion to Wat Rokakandal Centre, an ancient Vietnamese pagoda that has been refurbished and converted to a local museum displaying Cambodian crafts. Drive south to visit Chhlong, a small town dotted with colonial-French architecture before proceeding to Kompong Cham. After lunch, travel drive to Kompong Thom. En route visit the 11th century Wat Kohear Nokor to meet local monks and villagers. Overnight at hotel in Kompong Thom.

Morning drive 30km through the countryside to the 7th century temple of Sambor Prei Kuk. Visit the ancient capital of Chenla with its 100 temples dating from the pre-Angkor period. The complex at Ishanapura is composed of four groups of temples that are among the most ancient surviving examples of Khmer architecture. Overnight at hotel in Siem Reap.

Visit the Roluos group of temples dating from the 9th and 10 century, including Preah Ko, Bakong, and Lolei temples. In the afternoon, visit the Bantey Kdei with its rarely seen sculpted female deities, the Lake of Srah Srang, the impressive Ta Prohm Temple, which remains in the clutches of the enveloping jungle. Visit the Ta Keo, Chau Say Tevada, and Thommanon temples before returning to hotel. End the day with a spectacular sunset viewed from the top of the mountain temple of Phnom Bakheng. Begin exploration of the ancient city of Angkor by entering Angkor Thom via the South Gate. Continue the journey by viewing the ruins at Bayon, Baphoun, Phimeanakas, the Royal Palace, the Elephant Terraces and the Leper King Terrace. In the afternoon, visit magnificent Angkor Wat with its extraordinary architecture and bas-reliefs. Overnight at hotel in Siem Reap.
