Arrival in Leh (3500m) and Mandatory Acclimatization. Fly into Leh and transfer to your hotel. Strict rest is required for acclimatization due to the extreme cold and high altitude to mitigate the risk of AMS. Spend the day hydrating, moving slowly, and preparing all gear, especially specialized winter clothing and trekking boots, for the harsh, challenging environment ahead.

Continue the acclimatization process by visiting local, low-exertion sites like the Leh Palace and the vibrant main market. A mandatory session is held for gear checking, ensuring every participant has adequate protection, including quality thermals, waterproof outer layers, and appropriate footwear for walking on the frozen Zanskar River.

A long, cold drive takes you to the starting point of the trek, past the Zanskar-Indus confluence, to the road-head. A short trek begins on the Chadar (frozen blanket) of the Zanskar River, walking carefully over the glass-like ice surface to reach the first major campsite at Shingra Koma, where you set up camp in specialized sub-zero tents.

The day involves carefully navigating the frozen river, a unique experience where you walk between towering, cold-desert canyon walls, watching for open water. You pass through stunning ice formations and occasional frozen waterfalls, often using ropes or walking on the river banks if the ice is thin, reaching the warmer Tibb Cave camp.

Today brings the most famous sight: the massive, frozen waterfall near Naerak, often a towering column of blue ice. After a photo stop, you continue to the Naerak campsite. This is the deepest point of the canyon, showcasing the raw, extreme beauty of the winter Zanskar region and the traditional route of the Zanskaris.

Begin the return journey, tracing your steps back along the frozen river. The scenery on the return is often entirely different due to changing light and the dynamic nature of the ice.
