Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Cambridgeshire

    Arriving in to London Heathrow Airport collect your rental vehicle and head North skirting around London and in to the pastoral landscapes of the East of England. On route, you can visit the manor at Hedingham Castle and Gardens, Audley End House or the Duxford Imperial War Museum before arriving in the glorious university city of Cambridge. Explore the labyrinthine cobbled parades and squares and marvel at the intricate architecture of world-renowned colleges including Kings College, Trinity College and Christ's College. Enjoy the Cambridge Museum before taking a stroll along the Backs, extensive parklands behind the university, or take a punt on the river with one of the resident students.

  • Day 2 : York and Castle Howard

    Continuing your journey north pass Nottingham and Lincoln on route to the grandiose city of York and the rolling hills of Yorkshire. York is home to a wealth of historic and cultural sites from the cobbled Shambles, Britain's first shopping street to Viking heritage at the Jorvik Center. Stroll along the remaining medieval city walls, gates and towers or visit the National Railway Museum, current home of the Flying Scotsman, visit the Mansion House or the Tudor exhibition at Micklegate Bar, before enjoying York's undoubted highlight at the iconic York Minster. Outside of the city you find yourself in another area of outstanding natural beauty with the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors on your doorstep as are the historic attractions at Fountains Abbey and Gardens and the majestic Castle Howard.

  • Day 3 : York and Castle Howard

    Continuing your journey north pass Nottingham and Lincoln on route to the grandiose city of York and the rolling hills of Yorkshire. Take time to explore the lakes, their surrounding fells, woodlands, stone walls and quaint lake-land villages such as Windermere and Grasmere. Take a steam-boat ride on Lake Windermere or climb Scafell Pike, the highest point in England to enjoying breath-taking views. This region is a haven for walkers, hikers, budding artists and photographers or those simply looking for a tranquil boat trips or lazy drives soaking up the scenery. Possible cultural visits include Wordsworth's Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage along with Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm. The region boasts a wealth of stunning historic houses whilst to the North you can visit the magnificent Hadrian's Wall and one of its many Roman forts which once stood on the most northern frontier of the Roman Empire.

  • Day 5 : Lake District

    Today pass south to visit the magnificent city of Liverpool which was designated as European City of Culture in 2008. The city is home to two cathedrals, dozens of listed buildings, the famous Albert Docks and a wealth of Beatles Heritage including Matthews Street, the Cavern Club, Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields and the Beatles Story Exhibition. A short onward drive brings you to the Roman city of Chester, home to Roman City walls and gate towers, the stunning excavated Roman Amphitheatre, an impressive cathedral and the unique Tudor Facaded "Rows".

  • Day 7 : Stratford-upon-avon and the Cotswolds

    Passing in to the Midlands you may choose to stop at Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Gardens before visiting one of William the Conquerors fortresses at the stunning Warwick Castle. Then arriving in the Cotswolds explore Stratford-upon-Avon, a picturesque, medieval town of Tudor timberwork buildings, open greens and boats bobbing on the river Avon and a wealth of heritage sites dedicated to the towns most famous resident William Shakespeare. Outside of Stratford you can explore the quintessential countryside of the Cotswolds including quaint and eccentric chocolate-box villages such as Broadway, Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold. Stunning sites you can visit include Warwick Castle, Snowshill Manor and Garden, the 13th century cistercian Hailes Abbey and the medieval manor at Sudely Castle, linked to King Henry VIII and 2 of his wives. The University town of Oxford and Churchill's magnificent Blenheim Palace are also within driving distance.

  • Day 9 : Regency Bath and the Roman Baths

    Departing Broadway, pass once more through quintessential English countryside in the rolling hills and patchwork fields of the Cotswolds on route south to Regency city Bath. Bath is a city which oozes Georgian opulence and is home to so many sites of historic importance that the entire city has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status. Visit architectural highlights including the Elizabethan Abbey and Pulteney Bridge or discover 18th century life at the beautifully preserved No1 Royal Crescent, as well as a wealth of quality museums, exhibitions and of course the spectacular Roman Baths and Pump Room. Time permitting you may choose to visit nearby Beckford Tower or the village of Lacock, a picture perfect historic village and Lacock Abbey, used in TV and film productions of Pride and Prejudice and Harry Potter.

  • Day 10 : Devon and Cornwall

    A short drive from Bath you'll pass through Somerset's Mendip Hills where you may stop at 14th century Farleigh Hungerford Castle. Continuing in to the beautiful landscapes of North Devon you may choose to pass through the eerie and remote countryside of the Dartmoor National Park before reaching the North Cornish Coast. Continuing along the rugged coastline you may choose to enjoy traditional fish and chips at the sandy bay of Bude, visit the charming medieval market town of Barnstaple or continue to the village of Tintagel, once again connected to the legendary King Arthur and Merlin. Further down the coast find the charming seaside town of Port Isaac, famed for the hit BBC show Doc Martin.

  • Day 11 : Devon and Cornwall

    A short drive from Bath you'll pass through Somerset's Mendip Hills where you may stop at 14th century Farleigh Hungerford Castle.     Today head back towards London, driving through Dartmoor and Somerset's Mendip Hills, perhaps stopping for a visit to the beautiful Hestercombe Gardens. Next, travel to Glastonbury, spiritual capital of England shrouded in Myth with connections to Arthurian Legend and the Holy Grail. After a hike up the Tor for fantastic views, make your way to the village of Wells, home to a stunning Cathedral and Bishops Palace.

  • Day 13 : Salisbury and Stonehenge

    Returning East pass on to the Salisbury Plain to see the famous standing stones at Stonehenge or lesser known but equally enchanting Avebury Stone Circle. You may choose to stop in historic Salisbury to visit the magnificent cathedral which boasts England's tallest spire and houses an original copy of the Magna Carta. Alternatively, you may head to Windsor spend the balance of the day exploring this beautiful and historic town home to cobbled squares, timber fronted houses, and the world's largest inhabited castle at Windsor Castle, the Queen's favoured residence. By evening return your vehicle.
