The festival of Jambay lhakhang drup is in central Bhutan.
This tour gives you a real appreciation of both the Buddhist faith and the Bhutanese way of life as the tour package includes both Festival and visiting other interest places in Bhutan.

The festival is held for duel reasons; to commemorate an establishment of Jambay Lhakhang (temple) in 7 th century and to honor Guru Rimpoche, a saint who introduced Tantric form of Buddhism in Bhutan. A variety of historical folk dances and mask dances are performed and each dance bear significant meaning/importance by monks and laymen including the atsaras(clowns), who amuse the audience with their antic.

This festival is one of the most important in Bhutan and its high light is the 'Mewang" - the fire ceremony and the " Tercham" - a religious dance. A fire dance is held in the evening to bless infertile women so that they may bear children.

The festival dances were composed mostly by Terton Pema Lingpa, the great treasureDiscoverer of the 15th century.

Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival In Paro

    On a clear day, the flight to Paro is one of the most spectacular of all mountain flights. You will see major Himalayan peaks such as Everest, Kanchenjunga and Makalu, and then on the final approach to Paro Bhutan’s own snowy peaks, Chomolhari, Jichu Drake and Tserimgang will come into view. Bhutan’s first gift to you as you disembark from the aircraft will be cool, clean fresh mountain air. You are welcome by your term escort from Bhutan View Tours & Travels and after completion of arrival formalities will be taken to your hotel. If your flight is in morning after lunch, visit to Paro Rinpung Dzong the giant fortress that overlook the Paro valley. Locally considered it as the “ Fortress on the Heap of Jewels”. Next visit  the Taa Dzong” the Watch Tower”. In 1968 the Watch Tower has been turned into the National Museum of Bhutan and was renamed Namse Bangdze ( Treasury of the God of Wealth) by the Third King of Bhutan. Today one can see many objects of great antiquity and religious value.

  • Day 2 : Paro - Thimphu

    After enjoying your breakfast in the Hotel and check out, drive to Thimphu. Thimphu is the capital city from where the wheel of the dual spiritual and the secular system of Bhutan is turned. It is the biggest District and the biggest city in the country. On the way stop by and visit model of the bridge that is use to build in 14th century. One of the famous Tibetan masters who not only built numerous iron chain bridges but also played a vital role in unifying the kingdom. Reaching Thimphu visit; school of thirteen arts and craft, folk heritage museum, institute of traditional medicine science, sangay gang view point followed by mini zoo.

  • Day 3 : Thimphu sightseeing

    After breakfast drive towards the northern part of Thimphu for an hour and start your hike to Tango Monastery, the hike takes about 45 minutes up hill on the right of the motor road, at the same level as Chagri meditation center but out of sight. Tango dates originally from 13th century as it was the residence of Phajo Drugom Shigpo who introduces the Drukpa Kagyupa School in Bhutan. It was rebuilt in its present form in 1688 by Gyalse Tenzin Rabgay, the 4th Temporal Ruler in the 18th century. The monastery was restored in the mid-1990s and is now used as an upper –education-level monastic school.
     On the way back visit Pangri Zampa Temple, it is situated just beyond Dechenphodrang, two imposing structures are set in the middle of a meadow, not far from the river, this was the residences of Shabdrung Ngaywang Namgyal when he arrive in Bhutan in the year 1616 AD. The temple was built during the first quarter of the 16th century, a prayer wall covered with carved and painted stones, and huge cypress trees combine to give this place an almost magical charm. It is now the seat of the monastic school of astrology.

  • Day 4 : Thimphu - Punakha

    Drive to Punakha offers a breathtaking view of the Himalayan range from the Dochu La pass. The remarkable Punakha until 1955 it served as winter capital of Bhutan, where now stands for winter residence for the monastic community. Reacing Punaka hike to the  famous Chime Lhakhang for 30 minutes, lies few miles before reaching your hotel. Evening stroll around the township of Khuruthang (new town of the Punakha)

  • Day 5 : Punakha - Trongsa

    This day is the long drive’s but it is a journey you are not likely to forget; the scenery is certainly stunning. To begin with you continue down the highly cultivated valley to the town of Wangduephodrang. Where there is a very large fortress built in the shape of sleeping bull. Leaving Wangdue province road winds up the way through impressive cliff sides and to Pelela (3,350mtrs). Descending from the other side it is a long way down to Trongsa, which can be clearly seen for many miles distant. Trongsa fort is the largest in the country and it was from here that the present royal family emerged as the most powerful force at the beginning of the last century.

  • Day 6 : Trongsa - Bumthang (Festival)

    In the morning visit the fort of Trongsa and stroll around the township of Trongsa. From Trongsa you drive across the yotongla and descend down eventually valley of Bumthang and chummy, the heart of famous Bumthang Yathra weaving region. Stop by and take a look on the on the colorful weaving of the region. Bumthang valley is the one of the sacred in the country and innumerable legends surrounds the area. It is here that the Kings are cremated and the present royal family traces its ancestry back to a famous saint called Pema Lingapa, who was a smith in Jaker Township.

  • Day 7 : Jambay Lhakhang Drub(Festival)

    After your breakfast drive to Jambay Lhakhang for the colorful festival ‘Tshechu’. This is a great opportunity to mingle with the Bhutanese crowed and so to enjoy their happy company. Throughout the day there will be mask dance and the Buddhist ceremonies. People come all around to attend and exchange gossip, look for marriage partner, pick up merit in the search of escaping the wheel of life or perhaps just to have thoroughly good time with the friends.

  • Day 8 : Jambay Lhakhang Drub(Festival)

    After your breakfast visit Jakar Dzong, Kenchosum Lhakhang, Tamshing Lhakhang and hike to Kuje Lhakhang and to Jambay Lhakhang for the festival. If time permits drive an hour to Tang Rangmachen Lhakhang and walk to Ugyencholing Palace, built by Deb Tshogey Dorji, a descendent of Pemalingpa. There are servants’ room and the storage room in the building that is magnificent small place. On the way back visit ‘Membartsho’ in which the legends says that Pema lingpa discovered numerous text from this lake. You can get relax in the hotel and get yourself prepared to witness naked dance which will be performing late at night.

  • Day 9 : Bumthang - Phobjikha Valley

    Today you will be driving to Gangtay, the winter home land of black-necked crane there. In Gangtay you can either rest in the peaceful vicinity of the lodge, or there a plenty of local walks, including bird watching and the visit to gompa which overlooks the valley.

  • Day 10 : Phobjikha Valley - Paro

    Drive down the winding mountain with the first two lane road to Paro. Where you will have a chance to do last minute shopping or just wander around the township of Paro.

  • Day 11 : Hike To The Famous Tiger Nest

    Your day start with the excursion hike to famous Taktsang monastery located on a cliff 3000ft above Paro valley. After breakfast drive to the starting point of the hike from the hotel.
    Taktsang (tigers nest) was first blessed by Guru Rimpoche when he visited the place riding on a flying tigress in 8th century. Guru Rimpoche is believed to be meditated in this cave for three months. Later Gyalse Tenzin Rabgye, 4th Druk Desi built a monastery on the same location.
    The hike is around three hours walk to the monastery, plus two and half hours visiting around with lunch hour and one hour way back to the road head.
    After reaching back from hike if time permit you can visit paro Dzong overlooking the valley. It offers great views of Ta Dzong and Paro Rinpung Dzong. Enroute, visit the iconic 17th century Paro Rinpung Dzong which means “the fortress of the heap of jewels.”

  • Day 12 : Departure
