Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival in Arusha – Welcome by Gardenia African Safaris

  Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Arusha Airport, where a friendly Gardenia African Safaris guide will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha. After settling in, meet your mountain guide for a comprehensive pre-climb briefing, gear check, and route discussion. We ensure you’re fully prepared before the climb begins. Enjoy the evening at leisure—relax at your lodge or explore the vibrant town of Arusha. Overnight at a charming lodge such as Ilboru Safari Lodge. Stay hydrated, rest well, and get excited—your Mount Meru adventure starts tomorrow!

• Day 2 : Arusha – Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut

  After breakfast, your Gardenia team transfers you to Arusha National Park. At Momella Gate (1,500m), we complete registration and begin the scenic ascent through savannah and forest. Accompanied by a park ranger, you may spot giraffes, zebras, antelope, and buffalo along the trail. The 10 km hike (4–5 hours) passes through fig trees and waterfalls, gradually climbing to Miriakamba Hut (2,500m). Keep your eyes open for black-and-white colobus monkeys and colorful turacos. Upon arrival, enjoy a hot meal and a relaxed evening. This first day helps your body adjust to the altitude.

• Day 3 : Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut Optional Little Meru Hike

  Today’s trek covers about 8 km (3–4 hours), ascending steadily through beautiful forest into open heathland. As you climb, enjoy striking views from Elephant Ridge (Mgongo wa Tembo) overlooking Meru’s crater walls and the vast Ash Cone. Arrive at Saddle Hut (3,570m) for lunch and a break. In the afternoon, an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) is highly recommended—it offers incredible views and boosts summit readiness. After dinner, rest early for your upcoming summit push.

• Day 4 : Summit Day – Socialist Peak (4,566m) and Descent to Miriakamba

  The summit attempt begins around midnight. With headlamps glowing, hike with your Gardenia guide via Rhino Point (3,800m) and Cobra Point (4,350m), following the narrow, breathtaking crater rim trail. After 5–6 challenging hours, reach Socialist Peak in time for sunrise. Marvel at views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the crater, and the Maasai plains. Descend cautiously to Saddle Hut for brunch, then continue to Miriakamba Hut for a final overnight. This full day of hiking (12–14 hours total) is physically demanding but deeply rewarding.

• Day 5 : Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate – Return to Arusha

  After breakfast, descend along the southern trail back to Momella Gate (10 km, 2–3 hours). Spot wildlife and enjoy a final forest walk. At the gate, sign out and receive your official summit certificate—a testament to your incredible journey. Your Gardenia driver will be waiting for a smooth transfer back to Arusha, where you’ll check into your hotel, enjoy a hot shower, and celebrate your success with a relaxing afternoon.

  After breakfast, your Gardenia African Safaris driver will transfer you to Kilimanjaro Airport for your departure. Alternatively, you can extend your trip with an exciting Tanzania safari to Ngorongoro, Tarangire, or Serengeti, or unwind on the tropical beaches of Zanzibar. Whether you continue or fly home, your Mount Meru adventure will stay with you forever—thanks to the care, safety, and spirit of Gardenia’s dedicated mountain team.
