Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Londorossi Gate Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,100 → 2,650 m)

Your Kilimanjaro journey begins with a scenic drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate for registration. After briefing and equipment checks by our Gardenia crew, you hike 3–5 hours into the lush rainforest, arriving at Mti Mkubwa Camp. Colobus monkeys and vibrant birdlife create a serene backdrop. Meanwhile, our porters handle your luggage and set up your tents. Cooks prepare hot meals and tea, while guides perform your first pulse/O₂ checks. You'll learn our “pole-pole” pacing style—essential for acclimatization. A quiet forest sleep under the stars completes a gentle first day. Our staff ensures all gear is secured, water is boiled, and you rest comfortably, ready for higher altitudes.

  • Day 2 : Mti Mkubwa Shira I Camp 2,650 → 3,500 m

Today, you leave the forest for Kilimanjaro’s moorland zone. Trekking 7–10 km in about 5–6 hours, you'll ascend gradually toward Shira I Camp, where expansive views of the Shira Plateau and Kibo’s glaciers greet you. Our Gardenia porters arrive ahead to set up camp, and chefs prepare a hearty hot lunch. Assistant guides accompany each guest, maintaining a comfortable pace while explaining local plants and volcanic history. Temperatures drop quickly, and our staff ensures you're bundled up. Evening tea, a warm dinner, and medical checks round out the day. From camp, marvel at Kilimanjaro’s vastness under a starry sky—an unforgettable view.

  • Day 3 : Shira I Moir Hut Shira II) (3,500 → 4,200 m

A key acclimatization day, you’ll traverse the windswept Shira Plateau to reach Moir Hut, with optional side hikes to Shira Cathedral. Trekking 10–11 km over 5–7 hours, the altitude gain is steady and manageable. Gardenia’s crew carries all gear and sets up camp on arrival. Our chefs prepare fresh meals, including warming soups and energizing carbs. Guides explain the mountain’s geology and run optional acclimatization hikes. Evening brings group briefings and hydration checks. Night temperatures are sub-zero, so we ensure your sleeping bags and layers are sufficient. You’ll rest high above the clouds in a remote, serene alpine desert.

  • Day 4 : Moir Hut → Lava Tower → Barranco Camp (4,200 → 4,600→ 3,900 m)

This crucial day reinforces acclimatization by ascending to Lava Tower (4,600 m) before descending to Barranco Camp (3,900 m). The 12-km route takes 6–7 hours. You’ll notice thinner air, but our “climb high, sleep low” strategy enhances your body’s adjustment. Gardenia chefs serve lunch beneath the looming Lava Tower before the trail dips into the Barranco Valley. Assistant guides provide support and oxygen if needed, while porters prep your camp in advance. Barranco Camp, nestled below the famed wall, offers a dramatic landscape. After dinner, guides debrief you on summit preparation and gear needs. This night, the stars shine sharper than ever.

  • Day 5 : Barranco Camp : Karanga Camp (3,900 → 4,035 m)

Today you scale the iconic Barranco Wall, a fun but challenging scramble. With Gardenia guides offering close support and encouragement, you’ll reach the ridge with pride. The trail then undulates across glacial valleys to reach Karanga Camp in 4–5 hours. Porters assist with any tricky terrain, and a warm lunch awaits. Located in the alpine desert zone, Karanga provides awe-inspiring views of Kibo and Mawenzi. Our team ensures you're well-fed, hydrated, and comfortable, while evening checks reinforce readiness for summit night. We encourage early sleep and mental focus. Tomorrow’s ascent to base camp marks the final lead-up to your summit bid.

  • Day 6 : Karanga → Barafu Camp (4,035 → 4,640 m)

A short but steep ascent (4 km, 3–4 hrs) brings you to Barafu Camp, Kilimanjaro’s high base camp. Our team prepares a warm lunch upon arrival. Barafu sits exposed on rocky terrain, with sweeping glacier views. Afternoon is reserved for rest, dinner, and detailed summit briefing. Gardenia guides discuss layering, pacing, and equipment essentials. Pulse/O₂ checks are mandatory. Porters make camp secure against high winds, while assistant guides confirm oxygen readiness and trekking poles. You’re tucked into your tent early—sleeping bags rated to –20 °C ensure comfort. With encouragement and expertise, we help you mentally prepare for your midnight summit push.

  • Day 7 : Barafu → Uhuru Peak → Mweka Camp (4,640 → 5,895 → 3,100 m)

Summit day begins around midnight with tea and porridge. You ascend slowly under headlamp, reaching Stella Point (5,685 m) for sunrise, then continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m). With support from Gardenia’s expert crew—carrying oxygen, snacks, and motivation—you achieve Africa’s highest point. Expect 6–8 hrs up, followed by a long descent via Barafu and down to Mweka Camp (3,100 m), where you’ll arrive in late afternoon. Porters meet you with warm soup and set up tents. Staff monitor for signs of AMS and ensure hydration. Tonight, you celebrate success—physically spent but emotionally fulfilled beneath rainforest canopy.

  • Day 8 : Mweka Camp , Mweka Gate → Moshi 3,100 → 1,650 m

After breakfast, descend 3–5 hrs through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,650 m). There, Gardenia guides and porters gather for a joyful farewell ceremony with singing, dancing, and summit certificates. After final group photos, our vehicle transports you back to your lodge in Moshi. A well-earned hot shower, celebration meal, and debrief with our guides complete the journey. Our team shares post-climb health advice, gear return logistics, and optional safari or Zanzibar add-on info. You leave with more than memories—you leave with new family, Tanzanian warmth, and life-long pride in your achievement.
