Package Overview

Mount Meru (4,566 m), Tanzania’s second-highest peak, offers a stunning 5-day trek through Arusha National Park. Starting at Momella Gate, hikers ascend through rich wildlife zones and montane forests to Miriakamba and Saddle Huts. An optional hike to Little Meru aids acclimatization before the midnight summit push to Socialist Peak. The route features breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro, crater cliffs, and alpine terrain. The descent retraces the route back to Arusha. This non-technical climb is ideal for acclimatization before Kilimanjaro, offering a quieter, scenic alternative with diverse ecosystems, ranger-guided safety, and rewarding summit views.

Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival in Arusha

  Activities: Arrive, meet your guide, gear check, and briefing.
  
  Accommodation: Hotel/lodge in Arusha.
  
  Optional: Arusha National Park visit (if time allows).

• Day 2 : Momella Gate (1,500 m) → Miriakamba Hut (2,514 m)

  Hiking Time: 4–6 hours

  Scenery: Savannah, wildlife (giraffes, buffaloes, monkeys), montane forest.
  
  Accommodation: Miriakamba Hut (shared dorm-style).
  
  Note: Armed ranger accompanies due to wildlife.

• Day 3 : Miriakamba Hut → Saddle Hut (3,570 m)

  Accommodation: Saddle Hut.

  Summit Attempt Time: Start 12:30–1:30 AM
  
  Hiking Time: 10–12 hours total
  
  Distance: 19 km round-trip
  
  Ascent & Descent: 1,000 m up, 2,000 m down
  
  Terrain: Rocky ridges, narrow paths, exposed crater views.
  
  Highlights: Sunrise from summit, views of Kilimanjaro, crater rim traverse.
  
  Accommodation: Miriakamba Hut (descent after summit).

• Day 5 : Miriakamba Hut → Momella Gate → Return to Arusha
