Amboseli may be smaller than many other Kenyan parks, but it packs a lot into a very small space. For starters, the views here are astonishing because Africa's highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m), looms over the park to the south. Best of all, the mountain provides a backdrop to many fantastic wildlife sightings that almost always include elephants with big tusks, as well as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, wildebeests and gazelles. Birders can also look for the park's 420 different recorded species. Evening Game Drive, Amboseli National Park Going on an evening game drive is one of the highlights of any safari. This is when temperatures cool, the light becomes softer and the wildlife begins to get active. Not only will you be out when the light is best for taking photos, but it's also one of the best times of day for seeing the animals. Of all Kenya's Rift Valley lakes, high-altitude Lake Naivasha offers the richest variety of experiences. There's lots to do here, and you might even see zebras, giraffes or hippos. Its human story is also fascinating: Lake Naivasha was popular with colonial types as an escape from the city, and it plays a similar role for locals now, especially on weekends. Lake Nakuru National Park has lots of fans, and you're sure to be one after you visit. Although the park is only minutes away from the busy town of Nakuru, it has an incredible wildlife offering. This includes large numbers of both black and white rhino, endangered Rothschild's giraffes, pink flamingos, and lions that climb trees. This is one of only a handful of parks in Africa where you can see lions up in the branches. The view out over the lake from high on the escarpment is superb, while the lake itself is surrounded by acacia woodlands. Nakuru One of the most significant cities in Kenya's Rift Valley and adjacent to Lake Nakuru National Park, Nakuru is a fascinating window on provincial urban life in Kenya. Evening Game Drive, Lake Nakuru National Park You'll love the warm light and cooler temperatures as we take you out to explore on your evening game drive. This time of day is when both predators and prey are most active and it can feel as though anything could happen at any moment. This is when you'll most enjoy being on safari. Many travelers fall in love with the Masai Mara National Reserve at first sight, and it's really easy to do. Here you can go looking for big cats, elephant, giraffe, hippo, buffalo, wildebeest, zebra and more (including black rhinos in the Mara Triangle). Birders come because more than 500 species have been recorded in the Mara. And best of all, you get to do it all across one of Kenya's best examples of classic safari terrain. The Masai Mara is a wonderful world of endless savannah grasslands, acacia woodlands and rolling hill country rising to the escarpments that line the reserve's perimeter.
