Kenya has some incredible wildlife destinations, but the Masai Mara National Reserve may well be the best of them all. This classic East African landscape of savannah grasslands, rolling hills, acacia woodlands and distant escarpments is itself impressive. But it's also the backdrop to one of the densest concentrations of wildlife on the planet. The Mara is known for its big cats, and this is certainly one of the best places to see lion, leopard and cheetah. You're almost guaranteed to see elephant, giraffe, buffalo, Thomson's gazelle, hippo, wildebeest and zebra, while black rhinos are possible in the Mara Triangle. And that's just the start. The Masai Mara is home to over 500 bird species too. Evening Game Drive Going on an evening game drive is one of the highlights of any safari. This is when temperatures cool, the light becomes softer and the wildlife begins to get active. Not only will you be out when the light is best for taking photos, but it's also one of the best times of day for seeing the animals. Big lion prides stalk the riverbanks. Solitary leopards watch the world go by from the fork of a tree. Cheetahs streak across the plains in pursuit of a gazelle. You will probably also see elephants, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, buffaloes and spotted hyenas while you're here, not to mention so many other animals. Today you’ll visit Ngorongoro Crater, one of the most beautiful natural sights in Africa, a place where you’ll experience otherworldly beauty with extraordinary wildlife. Watch as, from above, morning mist rolls up and over the crater rim, and notice how the steep walls suggest a place unlike any other. Down below on the crater floor, explore a lost world preserved in a state of pristine isolation, one that shelters lions and hyenas, elephants and black rhinos, flamingos and golden jackals. There are also forests, hippo-filled lakes, a salt pan and hyena dens, and you’ll never lose the sense that you’ve stumbled into a safari theme park where everything’s wild. All Day On this morning's guided game drive, we'll take you down into Ngorongoro Crater; the drive down is one of the most thrilling possible approaches for a day of wildlife viewing. Amboseli may be smaller than many other Kenyan parks, but it packs a lot into a very small space. For starters, the views here are astonishing because Africa's highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m), looms over the park to the south. Best of all, the mountain provides a backdrop to many fantastic wildlife sightings that almost always include elephants with big tusks, as well as lions, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, wildebeests and gazelles.
