7 days of coastal charm and ancient soul.
Dune-swept shores and salt-sprayed lunches await in Langebaan. Here you can not only explore the wild beauty of West Coast National Park, but also visit the crayfish valhalla and set sail on a whale cruise from postcard-pretty Paternoster, should you have a thing for the maritime.
In the Cederberg Mountains you can swap sea for stone: listen to San rock art whispering stories from 10,000 years ago, and taste bold vintages from the highest vineyards in South Africa at Cederberg Private Cellar – absolute musts if you love history and wine.
Craving cosiness after these little adventures? Then head to Tulbagh, stroll the heritage-filled Church Street and sip your way through the valley’s finest.
And finally, Cape Town wraps it all in glamour—with sweeping views from Table Mountain and a sunset champagne cruise in Cape Town’s glamorous V&A Waterfront you can put the cherry on your South African cake.
Untamed. Unexpected. Unforgettable.
Explore all of this by yourself during an unforgettable road trip. If you want to learn more about this country during your trip, our guides will be happy to drive and show you around at extra cost.

From November to March, a whale-watching cruise would be a great add-on to your visit, and guided bird tours run year-round, check the extra activities. Treat yourself to a 7-course beachfront lunch at Die Strandloper in Langebaan afterwards, and then it's just another 40 minutes' drive to laid-back Paternoster – welcome to the West Coast!
Activities:
Paternoster (on the West Coast)
Imagine weathered fishing boats bobbing in the bay, hardy succulents clinging to white sand dunes, and strings of wind-dried bokkoms swaying from wooden ceilings—that’s the charm of Paternoster. One of the oldest villages along South Africa’s West Coast, it’s a postcard-perfect blend of whitewashed cottages, bright pops of colour and wide, untouched beaches. It’s also a foodie favourite, boasting at least five top-tier restaurants that draw in visitors from far and wide. Wander through Paternoster Square and the Crayfish Wharf for artisanal finds—think fresh oysters, spicy pickled mussels, shell souvenirs, home-made jams, and quirky Weskus tees—all wrapped in a salty breeze and the authentic spirit of the West Coast.
West Coast National Park
West Coast National Park is a 360 square kilometres sized natural gem on the west coast of the Atlantic, known for its hiking trails, bird hides, and its turquoise Langebaan Lagoon—perfect for watersports like kayaking and kitesurfing. Home to over 250 bird species and some antelope, zebra, foxes and even dolphins and whales, it’s a haven for nature lovers. Visit in spring (August to September) to witness the landscape burst into colour with wildflowers, while you see whales pass offshore! Pack a picnic for one of South Africa’s most scenic lunch spots. Remember, all activities are available at an extra cost.
Guided bird tour in West Coast National Park
Step into the serene world of birdwatching at the Geelbek Hide in the heart of West Coast National Park. Nestled just inland from the quiet Saldanha harbour, the Langebaan Lagoon is the park’s sparkling centrepiece and one of South Africa’s most important birding hotspots. Home to over 250 bird species - more than a quarter of the country’s total - the park is a paradise for twitchers. As the tides shift, you’ll spot waders like knot, sanderling, and bar-tailed godwit inch closer to shore, while flamingoes, pelicans, and even the elusive osprey make memorable appearances. This 4-hour, expert-led tour is a must for bird lovers, but make sure to book early!

Or hike to the Rietrivier canyon viewpoint for jaw-dropping panoramas, or head to South Africa’s highest vineyards for a well-earned wine tasting. For a family-friendly detour, you can go to Cederberg Park Kromrivier, where kids can join in farm fun while grown-ups enjoy a cold craft beer. To get there, you’ll travel south via a scenic mix of gravel and tar roads. The most straightforward route leads along the R303 towards Ceres, before continuing on the R46 through the fruit-growing heartland of Ceres and the quaint town of Wolseley. The total distance is about 125 kilometres and the drive should take around two hours.
Activities:
Tulbagh
Welcome to Tulbagh, the enchanting Valley of Abundance where history and wine go hand in hand. Tucked into a dramatic basin of majestic mountains, the Tulbagh valley is a standout wine region with a unique terroir: cool nights, moisture-rich soils, and a climate perfect for cultivating top-quality grapes. First explored by European settlers in 1658, Tulbagh saw its first farms established in 1700. After the 1969 earthquake, every historic building on Church Street was lovingly restored – creating the largest collection of National Monuments in one single street in South Africa. Don’t miss the heritage walk! And discover a few hidden gems among the centuries-old wine estates, some almost as old as the country itself.
