A day of leisure activities in Arusha, designed for International Gap students. Activities are includes: 1.Community Service: Local schools (sports, art class, or teaching), Mazingira Project - environmental conservation projects (for example, tree planting), and experience Shanga, one of Tanzania’s Uplifting Social enterprises supporting people with disabilities and recycling. 2. Ngoma zetu Africa (African Cultural Dance) visitors get the opportunity to practice steps dancing and playing Ngoma [ Drums].
Day itinerary: Community Service vs Ngoma zetu Africa (African Cultural Dance) The community service projects: Opportunity for International students (Gap students) to make an impact and create new connections for the students. (1.) Local schools [Sports, art class, or teach,) (2) Mazingira Project -Tree Nurseries /Kijani Pamoja Org (4) Painting class- (Via via Art gallery) or Swahili art group (Themi Living Garden) (5) Child care volunteer/ Orphanage Children centers. After breakfast, by 9:30 am, we leave the hotel/hostel. The day starts with a community service project, with active engagement for a minimum of two hours. This is followed by an afternoon break and relaxation at 12:15 pm, or by lunch served at the center, or by returning for a hot lunch at the Lodge/Hostel. Break- PM-Relax or Journal writing At 1:00 pm (1 pm) an hour of Journal writings –Meet Up at Meeting Place or Lodge/ Hostel. NEXT. 2:45 pm – (all students), will drive to the Shanga workshop at Arusha Coffee Lodge. Experience Shanga: The Shanga workshop at Arusha Coffee Lodge for a quick workshop tour or a coffee break. Experience Shanga, one of Tanzania’s Uplifting Social enterprises supporting people with disabilities and recyclings. [30 minutes guided full workshop tour] or spend 15 minutes making your own necklace, if time allows. Relax with a coffee break at Arusha Coffee Lodge, by 3:30PM, leave for the African Cultural Dance workshop. Excitement movementt! African Cultural Dance workshop- (Experience the Spirit of Africa) Evening session: Open air- [4:00 PM] Ngoma zetu Africa: [45-1 hour’s workshop] Introduction: Abantu Group, a cultural dance crew Abantu will give a brief background history and value of ‘Urithi wa Ngoma zetu Africa’ [Our heritage African dance], and learn the significance of some tribal songs. Practical session: Abantu group will perform live dance, before visitors get the opportunity to practice steps dancing and playing Ngoma [ Drums]. An evening session ends, [at around 4:30 PM] return to the hotel or hostel for dinner and overnight stay.
