Bhandardhara Dam

Also known by the name of Wilson Dam, Bhandardhara Dam is the largest earthen dam in India. It was built in the year 1910 and stands on Pravara River. Having a massive height of 492 feet, it catches the attention of the tourists from the different parts of Maharashtra. Its structure is said to be the marvelous example of engineering in the then days and at present, it is a prominent site that shouldn’t be missed while visiting Ahmednagar.

1)    Bhandardhara Dam is a famous tourist site in Ahmednagar. It stands among the oldest earthen dams in India.

2)    It is the origin of a small waterfall known by the name of Umbrella Falls that is located nearby and is formed by the waters of Bhandardhara.

3)    There are some gardens nearby the dam that are fed by its waters. People spend a good quality time in these gardens.

4)    The backwaters of this dam are navigable and the activity of boating can be enjoyed at a minimal charge.

There is no special time for paying a visit to Bhandardhara Dam. Being a renowned point, it is visited on a huge scale by tourists and locals alike. Even during monsoons, this place is opened to the public so that the beauty of the waters flowing speedily can be captured in the camera.
