Daman is a small beautiful town in the Union Territory of Daman & Diu. It gloats a 2000 years old rich history. Daman was discovered by a Portuguese traveler Diogo Di Melo in 15th century. Slowly and gradually, the coast of Daman transformed into a Portuguese colony. The citadel was engulfed into Republic of India in 1961.
Daman is entrenched on the shoreline of Arabian Sea and has become a popular tourist spot and weekend getaway especially for the residents of Mumbai. It spreads across an area of 72 sq. kms at an elevation of 16 feet above sea level. With such surroundings it has a moderate climate where searing summers become intolerable. The monsoons bring a heavy downpour and winters aren't cold as the Arabian Sea is just next to Daman.
