Muniyara Dolmens, Munnar Overview

Located in Marayoor, nearly 55 km from Munnar, Muniyara Dolmens are the most magnificent prehistoric burial chambers. The dolmens found here are a unique representation and are, therefore popular throughout the world. Belongs to the Neolithic Age, these aboveground burial chambers are made of four stones placed on edges and covered by a large stone slab (capstone) from the top. Several sharp edge stones are used to cover these burials from all the sides. These dolmens often have more than one chamber to rest the bodies of multiple persons in one place. These prehistoric structures are bound to captivate every visitor, who is interested to peep into the century-old history. Muniyara Dolmens is a calm place and has spiritual vibrations. With the scenic beauty of nature and pristine air quality, this place appears to be an ancient burial site. It is said that these are the remnants of civilization between 3000BC and 14000BC.
