State Museum

Started functioning in 1885, the state museum of Thrissur is an adobe to a large number of historic pieces starting from antique jewelry to swords, metal sculptures, rocks, and ancient Indian items. Spread over an area of 5.5 hectors of land, the state museum compound comprises of zoological garden, art museum, botanical garden and natural history museum.

While the art museum exhibits a wonderful collection of artifacts, historic items such as swords, jewelry, rocks, stuffed butterflies and sculpture from all parts of Kerala, the zoo houses a great variety of wild animals like sloth bear, lion, tailed macaque, python, etc. The state museum complex in Thrissur is a favorite place in Kerala for school visits, family trips, and local sightseeing tours.
