Depart Arusha and head south toward Tarangire National Park, noted for its baobab lined ridges and some of the largest elephant herds in Tanzania. Spend the day on a game drive through Tarangire to look for elephant, giraffe and a wide range of resident birdlife, then continue to the highland town of Karatu in the late afternoon for the first overnight. The day is focused on wildlife viewing in less crowded park areas and settling into Karatu for the night.

Early departure from Karatu for the descent into the Ngorongoro Crater floor, one of the most concentrated wildlife areas in Africa contained within an ancient volcanic caldera. Spend a full day on the crater floor for extensive game viewing before climbing out of the crater and driving on to the Serengeti, arriving in time to settle into camp for the night.

Travel north through the Serengeti where the landscape changes from open plains to riverine country as the route approaches the Mara. Depending on the season there can be opportunities to witness the wildebeest migration and possible river crossings, though these events cannot be guaranteed. Settle into camp in the northern Serengeti for a two night stay positioned to follow the migration and predator activity.

A full day spent in the northern Serengeti with no park to park driving scheduled. The day is built around following wherever the herds and associated predator activity lead, with an emphasis on time and patience rather than a set circuit. This region typically sees fewer vehicles and the pacing is adjusted to remain with promising sightings as long as they hold interest.

Head back south into the central Serengeti with game viewing along the route as the landscape reverts to classic Serengeti plains. Arrive in the central Serengeti in the afternoon where reliable resident wildlife can be found and use this area as a base for the final full game viewing day of the safari portion.

Focus the day on the Seronera area in central Serengeti, known for consistent sightings of lion, leopard and a wide range of plains game. After game drives in Seronera, begin the drive back toward Karatu and arrive in the late afternoon for the final night of the safari portion of the trip.

Drive to Lake Eyasi for a cultural morning with the Datoga, known for metalworking, and the Hadzabe, a hunter gatherer community whose traditional way of life continues in this area. Walk alongside members of these communities to observe everyday life and traditional skills rather than a staged performance. After the cultural visit drive to Arusha for onward flights; the guide will adjust the length of the visit based on departure flight timing.
