Day wise Itinerary

• Day 1 : Arrival in Phuntsholing – Transfer to Thimphu Altitude: 293m → 2,320m Distance: Approx. 165 km | Drive Time: 5.5 to 6.5 hours

  Meet and greet at the Phuntsholing border gate. Our team will assist you with immigration formalities before you begin your journey into the heart of Bhutan. As you drive uphill, notice the dramatic change in landscape from the plains to dense forests. En route, visit Kharbandi Gompa, a serene monastery that offers beautiful views of the Bengal plains. Arrive in Thimphu by evening and take a leisurely walk-through Clock Tower Square.

  Begin your day with a visit to the National Memorial Chorten, where you'll see locals engaged in meditative circumambulation. Next, visit the Motithang Takin Preserve to observe Bhutan's national animal, a creature born from myth. Proceed to Buddha Dordenma, one of the tallest Buddha statues in the world. Explore the Zorig Chusum Institute where students learn Bhutan's 13 traditional arts. Stop by the Folk Heritage Museum and finally admire the grandeur of Tashichho Dzong.

• Day 3 : Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass Altitude: 2,320m → 3,100m → 1,200m Distance: 85 km | Drive Time: 3 hours

  After breakfast, drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3,100m). Stop at the 108 chortens of Druk Wangyal and enjoy panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayas. Descend into Punakha Valley and visit Punakha Dzong, a majestic structure between two rivers. Later, hike through the rice fields to Chimi Lhakhang, the temple of the Divine Madman. Optionally visit the Suspension Bridge.

• Day 4 : Punakha to Bumthang via Trongsa Altitude: 1,200m → 2,600m Distance: Approx. 215 km | Drive Time: 8 to 9 hours

  Begin a long but breathtaking journey to Bumthang, Bhutan's spiritual core. Drive through changing ecosystems, pass through Pele La Pass (3,300m) and visit the Chendebji Chorten. Stop at Trongsa to explore the grand Trongsa Dzong and Ta Dzong (watchtower museum). Continue driving across Yotong La Pass (3,400m) into Bumthang Valley.

  Today, visit some of Bhutan's oldest and most sacred temples. Start at Jambay Lhakhang, believed to be one of 108 temples built in one night. Proceed to Kurjey Lhakhang, housing the body imprint of Guru Rinpoche. Visit Tamshing Monastery, known for its ancient murals and spiritual importance. Stop at the Swiss Cheese Factory or Red Panda Brewery and enjoy a peaceful walk in Chamkhar town.

• Day 6 : Bumthang to Phobjikha Valley Altitude: 2,600m → 3,000m Distance: Approx. 188 km | Drive Time: 6 to 7 hours

  Depart from Bumthang and retrace your way through Trongsa. Drive into Phobjikha Valley, a bowl-shaped glacial valley and important conservation area. Visit Gangtey Monastery, one of Bhutan's oldest Nyingma institutions. Enjoy a serene walk along the Gangtey Nature Trail through pine forests and marshlands, where you may spot the endangered black-necked cranes in winter.

• Day 7 : Phobjikha to Paro Altitude: 3,000m → 2,200m Distance: Approx. 175 km | Drive Time: 6 to 7 hours

  Enjoy the beautiful drive westward through Wangdue and over Dochula Pass again. Arrive in Paro and visit Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery overlooking the Paro River. Explore Ta Dzong, which houses the National Museum. Stroll through Paro town for shopping or a café break.

• Day 8 : Paro to Haa via Chele La Pass (Day Excursion) Altitude: Chele La Pass – 3,988m | Haa – 2,670m Distance: Approx. 130 km round trip | Drive Time: 4 to 5 hours

  Drive early to Chele La Pass, the highest motorable road in Bhutan. Enjoy spectacular views of the Paro and Haa valleys. Continue to Haa Valley, once a restricted area. Visit Lhakhang Karpo and Nagpo, also known as the White and Black temples. Return to Paro in the evening.

• Day 9 : Paro – Hike to Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest Monastery) Altitude: Base – 2,600m | Monastery – 3,120m

  Embark on a pilgrimage hike to Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest, Bhutan's most iconic monastery built into a cliff. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew here on a tigress. The hike takes 5–6 hours round trip. On the way back, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the country.
  Overnight: Paro
