Cauvery and the Dam Illumination timings
| | Cauvery and the Dam | | The Cauvery takes its birth at the hills of Kodagu district and flows down towards Mysore, across which a few dams have been built.
The world famous Brindavan gardens on the terrace of the Krishna Raja Sagar dam across the river Cauvery is meticulously planned. Just below the dam the beautiful gardens are laid on either side of big artificial lakes named the South-North yards.
On one side, there is a vast sheet of water of not only Cauvery, but also from the rivers Hemavathi and Lakshmana Thirtha. Hemavathi and Lakshmana Thirtha merge here to make it a confluence bringing copious water to the main river Cauvery.
A myraid of fountains, cascading and springing into different shapes, amidst the surrounding greenery and flowers is an invigorating sight for the tourist. The fountains and the garden are tastefully illuminated on week-ends and holidays, attracting hundreds of tourists.
From the channels drawn from the dam, the main being the Visvesvaraya Canal, water is made available for agricultural operations of farmers in both Mysore and Mandya districts. After the construction of the reservoir, thousands of acres of lands have become major producing centres of sugar cane, rice and other crops, bringing fortune and prosperity to the people in the area.
