Kovalam, the world-renowned beach endowed with a sheltered bay safe for swimming during the off-monsoon months is about 16 kms. away from the city. It is a unique and uncluttered beach of silvery sands fringed with rows of tall palms.
The southern edge of the city is the internationally known Kovalam beach, which has the picturesque view of a paradise. Except for the monsoon season (June-Sept) the beach is a good place to swim and surf, due to its blue, shallow, waters. Specially designed cottages to catch the best of surf and sun make it an excellent summer resort with sauna, yoga and other health clubs provided during the season.
Kovalam is popular since 1930. Kovalam has three successive crescent shaped beaches. Kovalam beach is blessed with golden sand, calm blue waters of the Arabian Sea, rich greenery of coconut palms and rocks.
