About Thol Wild Life Sanctuary -Thol Wild Life Sanctuary was established in the year 1988 so as to protect the wildlife of the area. It is situated in the district of Mehsana and is at a distance of around 40kms from Ahmedabad. The sanctuary covers a small area of 6.99 sq. kms but still has a diverse vegetation cover. The sanctuary has a man constructed lake known as Thol, which covers the major area of the sanctuary.
The lake has a storage capacity of about 84mcm of water. The place is mostly a wetland and has marshes at edges along with scrub forests on either side of the embankments. The place is quite peaceful and is a perfect destination for those who want to avoid the hustle & bustle of the city life. The best time for visiting the sanctuary is between the months of October, March.
Avifauna-Thol Wild Life Sanctuary shelters various species of domestic as well as the migratory birds. During winters one can see a large number of birds like flamingos, black ibis, waterfowls, grey pelicans, spotted flycatcher, graylag geese, waders, mallards etc.
