Fairs of Mizoram

The people of Mizoram are agricultural people. There fairs and festivals also revolve round the harvest season of the state. The fairs are usually held for celebrating good cultivation. They express their happiness by celebrating the occasion with boisterous fairs and festivals. People across all age and group take part in the fairs held on the events like Chapchar Kut, Mim Kut and Pawl Kut. Every folk of the state participates in these colorful fairs with pomp and show. These fairs act as melting pot of cast, creed and religions as no section of the society in the state is untouched by the euphoria of the festive seasons. People take part in the fair with all enthusiasm and make the event an unforgettable experience by dancing, music and merry making. They rejoice the events with traditional dance like Cheraw, Sarlamakai and Khullam. The event is preceded by the performance of 'tingtang' (guitar) and 'phenglawng' (flute) which are there aboriginal musical instruments. They act as rhyme and musical accompaniments to the various dances. Delectable cuisines are served in the fairs by the community, which are relished by both the tourists and local people.
