Murud-Janjira is a local name for the fort that is located in the coastal village of Murud, Raigad. It is built out of stone and is said to be one of the strongest marine forts in India. It was built in the 17th century by Malik Ambar of Nizamshahi dynasty. Since it is a seaport and a marine port, Murud-Janjira can be accessed only by a boat ride.

2) It has a beautiful architecture having arches and well-carved walls. There are some walls on which the cannons are mounted.
3) In the previous times, these cannons were used against the enemy to prevent them from entering the premises.
4) Though Murud-Janjira appeared to be a walled seaport, it was a lavish fortress from inside. During the archaeological excavations, the ruins of a mosque, a queen’s palace, and a channeled pipeline system were discovered.

There is no specific time for visiting Murud-Janjira. This place attracts the visitors on a huge scale and thus, it remains flooded by tourists throughout the year. It can be visited during any season except monsoon.
Reaching There:-
Murud-Janjira can only be accessed via boat. Only has to hire the service of the local boats that are available on a frequent basis.
