Digboi

Famous as the 'Oil Town of India', Digboi is a town famous for its oil refinery in Assam. It got its name when the crude oil was discovered in the region and officials told the workers 'Dig boy, dig' to boost their enthusiasm. This phrase became the name of this town. It was colonized during the British rule in India and many advances were made during the then times. Presently, Digboi is a full-fledged town and headquarters of Assam Oil Division of the Indian Oil Corporation Limited.

Why Is It Famous?
Digboi town is the first place in the Indian subcontinent where oil was discovered and its refinery was set up. The oil business commenced in the area and was at its peak during the World War II.  Currently, it stands the as oldest oil-producing oilfield which is active till date.
