The building was designed by John Elliott RIBA, the senior VP of an international firm Wimberly, Allison, Tong and Goo, (WATG) that specializes in luxury hotels. The Abu Dhabi Government funded the project and owns it. However, it is managed by the Kempinski Group.
It is the second most expensive hotel ever built. It cost was approximately 6 billion USD. The place is popular place for people seeking a luxurious stay. It is a hotspot as artists like Christina Aguilera have performed at the venue. The hotel will be featured in the new Fast and Furious 7 movie as well.
