Day wise Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Welcome to Bhutan – Arrive Phuntsholing & Transfer to Thimphu

    Altitude: Phuntsholing – 293m | Thimphu – 2,320m
    Distance: 165 km | Duration: 5.5–6.5 hrs
    Climate: Subtropical to alpine (temperature drops as altitude rises)

    Itinerary:
    Meet & greet at Phuntsholing border by your guide from Ka Adventures.
    Complete immigration formalities at the entry checkpoint.
    Begin your scenic uphill drive along the Thimphu Highway, ascending through dense sub-tropical forests, waterfalls, and villages.
    En route, stop at:
    Kharbandi Gompa – A peaceful hilltop monastery overlooking the Bengal plains. o Wang Chhu River Viewpoints – For photos and a short tea break.

    Evening in Thimphu:
    Stroll at Clock Tower Square, visit souvenir shops and local markets.
    Overnight Stay: Thimphu

  • Day 2 : Thimphu Full-Day Cultural Sightseeing

    Altitude: Thimphu – 2,320m
    Thimphu – Bhutan's vibrant capital city, where tradition and modernity coexist beautifully. Sightseeing Schedule:

    Memorial Chorten
    White stupa built in honor of the Third King, filled with mandalas and statues.
    Morning is best to see locals circumambulating in prayer.

    Motithang Takin Preserve
    Sanctuary for Bhutan’s unique national animal, the Takin, found only in the eastern Himalayas.

    Buddha Dordenma Statue
    A massive 169-foot Buddha statue housing 125,000 smaller Buddhas.
    Offers sweeping views of Thimphu Valley.

    National Folk Heritage Museum
    A replica of a traditional Bhutanese home with exhibits on rural lifestyle, kitchen tools, and festivals.

    Zorig Chusum Institute (Traditional Arts School)
    Observe students learning Bhutan’s 13 sacred arts: painting, embroidery, wood carving, etc.

    Tashichho Dzong (Outer View)
    Bhutan’s central administrative and religious fortress; official seat of the King.

    Evening Option:
    Traditional cultural show with mask dances and local music (on request).

  • Day 3 : Thimphu to Punakha via Dochula Pass

    Altitude: Thimphu – 2,320m | Dochula – 3,100m | Punakha – 1,200m
    Distance: 85 km | Duration: 3–3.5 hrs

    Morning Highlights:
    Depart for Punakha after breakfast.
    Ascend to Dochula Pass:
    108 memorial chortens (Druk Wangyal Chortens)
    On clear days, spectacular views of snow-capped peaks like Masang Gang and Gangkar Puensum (world’s highest unclimbed mountain).
    In Punakha – Sightseeing:

    Punakha Dzong (Palace of Great Bliss)
    Built in 1637, Bhutan’s most picturesque dzong where royal weddings and coronations are held.
    Located at the meeting of Pho Chhu (male) and Mo Chhu (female) rivers.

    Chimi Lhakhang – The Fertility Temple
    Walk 20 minutes through fields to reach this sacred temple dedicated to Drukpa Kunley, known for his unorthodox blessings.

    Punakha Suspension Bridge
    160 meters long; perfect for photography and experiencing river breezes and prayer flags.
    Overnight Stay: Punakha

  • Day 4 : Excursion to Phobjikha Valley (Gangtey)

    Altitude: Punakha – 1,200m | Phobjikha – 3,000m
    Round Trip Distance: Approx. 135 km | Duration: 6–7 hrs
    Phobjikha Valley is a protected glacial valley and one of Bhutan’s most beautiful, untouched landscapes.

    Excursion Includes:
    Gangtey Monastery (Gantey Goemba)
    A 17th-century Nyingma school monastery offering a commanding view of the valley.

    Gangtey Nature Trail
    A gentle 1.5-hour hike through pine forests, traditional farmhouses, and wetlands where black-necked cranes roost (winter season: Nov–Feb).

    Black-Necked Crane Center (optional)
    Learn about Bhutan’s conservation efforts for this endangered species.
    Return to Punakha by evening.
    Overnight Stay: Punakha

  • Day 5 : Punakha to Paro via Thimphu

    Altitude: Punakha – 1,200m | Paro – 2,200m
    Distance: Approx. 125 km | Duration: 4.5–5.5 hrs

    Drive Details:
    Retrace the route through Dochula Pass and Thimphu en route to Paro.
    En route stop at Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan (built in 1629). Paro Sightseeing:

    Rinpung Dzong
    Meaning “Fortress of the Heap of Jewels,” houses monks and local government offices.
    Site of the annual Paro Tsechu festival.

    Ta Dzong (National Museum)
    A circular watchtower showcasing Bhutan’s rich history, masks, textiles, and weaponry.

    Paro Town
    Free time to explore cafés, artisan shops, and the charming riverside street.

    Optional: Traditional hot stone bath experience in a farmhouse (highly recommended). Overnight Stay: Paro

  • Day 6 : Hike to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)

    Altitude: Base – 2,600m | Taktsang Monastery – 3,120m
    Hike Duration: 5–6 hrs round trip
    Difficulty Level: Moderate (Pony hire available till halfway)

    About the Hike:
    Bhutan’s most iconic spiritual site, perched on a cliff 900m above the valley floor.
    According to legend, Guru Rinpoche flew here on the back of a tigress to meditate.
    Midway stop at the Taktsang Cafeteria for refreshments and photo ops.

    Afternoon:
    Visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and holiest temples, built in the 7th century. Evening Suggestions:
    Closing dinner with traditional Bhutanese cuisine and hospitality.
    Overnight Stay: Paro

  • Day 7 : Paro – Transfer to Phuntsholing – Departure

    Altitude: Paro – 2,200m | Phuntsholing – 293m
    Distance: Approx. 165 km | Duration: 5.5–6.5 hrs

    Itinerary:
    After breakfast, drive back to the southern foothills.
    Enjoy the final views of Bhutan’s countryside, mountains, and winding rivers.
    Reach Phuntsholing and complete exit formalities.
