History:

Bharatpur was strongly ruled by the Jats till 17th century. It is due to their strength, Mughals were not being able to conquer Bharatpur especially due to the powerful rulers like Churaman and Badan Singh. In the 18th century, with the leadership of their revailing ruler Badan Singh, Bharatpur farmers raised a riot against the Mughals and defeated them. In 1733, Suraj Mal, the adopted son of Badan Singh, defeated Khemkaran and founded the Bharatpur City. During his rule, Bharatpur was in its golden era. Today, Bharatpur falls between the Golden Triangle tourism and thus easy approachable to all the tourists.

Architecture:

The architecture of Bharatpur Palace has a perfect blend of Rajput and Mughal styles and thus is recognized as a unique piece of monument. Its walls and floors include rich decoration patterns that only add more glamour to the extravagant apartments. The palace contains Kamra Khas which is actually a museum including 580+ stone sculptures, 860+ local arts and crafts and many antique scriptures depicting the culture and art of classic Bharatpur.

Though there are various festivals celebrated here in different times of year but among them Brij festival is the most hyped one. It is celebrated vigorously in the Bharatpur Palace, Bharatpur. • By Air: The nearest airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi, which is at 184 km away from Bharatpur. After reaching airport, you can ride on a bus or private cab to reach the destination. You can also board a flight to Kheria Domestic Airport of Agra which is only 45 km away from Bharatpur.

• By rail: Simply take a train to Bharatpur railway station. This city is connected through railways to most of the major cities of India. After reaching the station, hire a cab or taxi to reach the Palace.
