Madikeri Fort is a seventeenth-century tourist attraction that is known as the ‘Pride of Madikeri Town’. It is a historical fort located in Coorg and was erected under the rule of Muddu Raja, the then ruler of Coorg. Initially, this fort was constructed out of mud but after the annexation by Tipu Sultan, it was rebuilt using granite and stones. He named the fort as Jaffarabad but lost the control over it soon after it came under the siege of Wodeyar kings. Lastly, this fort was dominated by the British powers that modified it further.

2) It served as the authoritarian seat of the rulers namely Muddu Raja, Tipu Sultan, Wodeyar kings, and the British.
3) It houses several structures within its vicinity like the chambers of the royal family, main hall, courtyard, temple, mosque, church, and a garden.
4) The mosque and church constructed inside it represent the dominance of the foreign powers in Coorg. The church located inside the fort was constructed after the demolition of a temple dedicated to Lord Virbhadra, a ferocious manifestation of Lord Mahadev.
5) There is a mandapa in the fort that is said to be the spot where the kings used to spend their leisure time.
6) Some people claim that there are unexplored secret passages under the fort. However, the archaeological authorities condemn this fact.
