Rajmachi Fort is a famous tourist attraction in the city of Pune (Maharashtra). Resting in the beautiful Western Ghats, it comprises the twin fortresses of Shriwardhan & Manaranjan Balekilla. The Satvahana dynasty constructed this amazing fort during their reign as a strategic location for protecting the region during battles. Later on, it was captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji and lastly by the British. Today, it is visited on a huge scale by tourists.
Why Is It Famous?
Rajmachi Fort is known for different regions. In the previous times, this citadel was a strategic location that allowed keeping an eye on every movement on the border. After the decline of Maratha Empire, it was taken under control by British. Post independence, these twin fortresses became home to the rural families of Udhewadi. Later on, the rural residents of Udhewadi were provided with pucca accommodation in a village nearby.
The surroundings of Rajmachi Fort never fail to amaze visitors. The green environment with a pleasant weather makes this place as an apt destination for relishing the venture of trekking and camping. It serves as a perfect location for conducting photo shoots.

Excluding monsoons and searing summers, all seasons are appropriate for visiting Rajmachi Fort. During winters, this place and its surroundings look more appealing as they are cloaked under mist. Even the dog-tired senses reinvigorate immediately after visiting Rajmachi Fort.
Watch Out!
Several temples used to be a part of these fortresses. They were destroyed due to natural calamities. An ancient temple of Lord Kaal Bhairava is located between Shriwardhan and Manaranjan fortresses. It houses an idol of self-manifested Kaal Bhairava. However, no ritualistic practices are active here.
