Swaraj Bhavan is the ancestral mansion of the Nehrus in the 19th century. It lies in the city of Allahabad and was owned by the Indian politician Motilal Nehru. This place is also famous as the birthplace of the former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. It houses the memories of the Nehru family, photographs of the meetings held in this mansion, the charkha used by Mahatma Gandhi, and other personal belongings of the Nehrus. Today, it is a famous place of interest and is visited by numerous people.

1) Swaraj Bhavan was originally known by the name of Mahmud Manzil. It was built for Syed Ahmed Khan because his presence was important for prolonged meetings and conferences
2) Mahmud Manzil was purchased by Pt. Motilal Nehru and was renamed as Anand Bhavan. He made noticeable changes in the building and transformed it into a lavishing mansion
3) The mansion served as the residence of Pt. Motilal Nehru for a prolonged period before it was donated to the Indian National Congress. It became the meeting place for the party members and was renamed as Swaraj Bhavan that means the abode of freedom
4) In the year 1970, it was donated by Mrs. Gandhi and today it is one of the most famous museums in India
