Package Overview

This is the irresistible pull of Africa: a place so powerful that even a seasoned and worldly traveler like East African Splendor could find himself lying awake in his tent, already longing for a land he had not yet left a place that had begun to feel more like home than home itself. We are often encouraged to stay focused on the present moment, yet East African Splendor, like so many who fall under Africa’s spell, understood that true passion cannot always be neatly controlled or reasoned away. The East African Splendor Wing Safar, long cherished by the Tass team, celebrates not only Africa’s remarkable ability to capture the human heart, but also the timeless charm of classic safari travel from East African Splendor’s era. The journey features three atmospheric tented camps, refined with modern comforts, thoughtfully chosen wildlife destinations that include East Africa’s most iconic national parks alongside a few hidden treasures, and five scenic flights that draw us closer to the continent’s vast and ever-changing landscapes. Together, these elements create an experience that is intimate, nostalgic, and deeply connected to the soul of Africa. Each day of your adventure is carefully curated to provide an unforgettable experience. Pricing Base price per person $

  • Day 2 Nairobi

    Giraffe Centre
    Giraffe Centre

Upon arrival, your Tass Safari Director will escort you to the Villa Rosa Kempinski, a tranquil sanctuary perfectly designed to banish jet lag. Our time in the capital is a deep dive into Kenyan heritage: we’ll explore the vast collections of the National Museum and share a moving, inspirational afternoon at a local Children’s Centre. After a charming encounter at the Giraffe Centre, we’ll enjoy a contemporary lunch at one of Nairobi’s most innovative restaurants. We also visit the historic estate of Karen Blixen (the brilliant Isak Dinesen). It has been remarked more than once by scholars of the land that her evocative prose in Out of Africa was more than worthy of the Nobel Prize, perhaps even more so than the contemporaries who received it.

    Laikipia Plateau

We depart Nairobi on a brief but significant flight north toward the Laikipia Plateau. The transition from the city’s bustle to this expansive, wildlife-rich wilderness is breathtaking, especially with the legendary Mount Kenya dominating the horizon under a crown of monumental clouds. This is the Africa of our dreams. Our retreat is the exceptional Mutara Camp, perched on a clifftop with commanding views. As the sole establishment within the 20,000-acre Mutara Conservancy, the camp represents a successful partnership between the local community and conservation-minded owners. Our game drives descend into the plateau, where we enjoy exclusive sightings of the "Big Five" including remarkably graceful leopards—and a vast array of other fascinating characters, both large and small.

  • Day 6 The Maasai Mara

We journey south by air to the Maasai Mara, the northern gateway to the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem rightly considered the world's most prolific wildlife sanctuary. Our home in this legendary landscape is the Olare Mara Kempinski, an intimate tented retreat that combines the thrill of the wild with refined, signature luxury. Each tent is elevated on a timber platform along the banks of the Ntiakitiak River, offering private veranda views of hippos lounging and elephants bathing in the cool waters below. Beyond the river, we’ll explore the Mara’s diverse terrain on spectacular game drives and visit a traditional Maasai village. This is a land that invites a deep sense of belonging; as the saying goes, where a person feels truly at home, outside their birthplace, is where they are destined to be.

  • Day 8 The Serengeti

We journey into the heart of the Serengeti, a landscape that Cyril Connolly famously described as a "limitless lawn" under a "marquee of sky." It is a place where the magic of the ancient world remains untouched. Though some see echoes of the great prairies, the Serengeti’s wealth of wildlife and its dramatic, rocky kopjes make it a world entirely its own. Our headquarters, Migration Camp, is perched high above the Grumeti River, a known haven for hippos. Built into a series of rugged outcrops, the camp’s "tents" are actually sophisticated luxury suites that redefine the safari experience. Here, we immerse ourselves in the quiet power of the plains, enjoying the secluded peace that makes this camp a traveler’s favorite.

  • Day 10 Lake Manyara And The Ngorongoro Crater

    Ngorongoro Crater
    Ngorongoro Crater

A picturesque flight from the Serengeti and a scenic drive bring us to The Manor at Ngorongoro. Nestled within a lush Arabica coffee estate, the Manor’s Cape Dutch-style cottages offer a refined sanctuary adjacent to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From here, we ascend the emerald slopes of a once-volatile volcano, now the serene and life-sustaining Ngorongoro Crater. At altitudes exceeding 7,000 feet, the crisp highland air is truly intoxicating, reminding us of Isak Dinesen’s claim that it "went to my head like wine."We then descend 2,000 feet into the "Lost World" of the crater floor, a 100-square-mile animal kingdom, for a full day of game viewing and an elegant bush picnic. Our exploration continues at Lake Manyara, a shimmering gem fed by highland springs. A favorite of Ernest Hemingway, the lake is a sanctuary for over 300 migratory bird species and a forested stronghold for Africa's most iconic mammals, including the famous tree-climbing (or perhaps more accurately, tree-lounging) lions.
