Upon landing, your Tass Safari Director will be waiting to escort you to the peaceful sanctuary of the Villa Rosa Kempinski, the perfect place to recover from your travels. Our time in the capital is packed with discovery: we’ll explore the vast collections of the National Museum of Kenya and spend a moving afternoon at a local Children’s Centre. After a close encounter with the residents of the Giraffe Centre, we’ll enjoy a contemporary lunch at one of Nairobi's premier modern eateries. We also visit the historic estate of Karen Blixen (known by her pen name, Isak Dinesen). Her legendary storytelling in Out of Africa remains so profound that many believe her literary contributions surpassed even those of her Nobel-winning contemporaries.

We depart Nairobi on a brief but significant flight north toward the Laikipia Plateau. The transition from the city’s bustle to this expansive, wildlife-rich wilderness is breathtaking, especially with the legendary Mount Kenya dominating the horizon under a crown of drifting clouds. Here, we find the Africa of our dreams. Our retreat is the exceptional Mutara Camp, perched on a cliffside with commanding views. As the sole establishment within the 20,000-acre Mutara Conservancy, the camp represents a successful collaboration between the local community and conservation-minded owners. Our game drives descend from the heights into the plateau, where we enjoy exclusive sightings of the "Big Five", including remarkably graceful leopards and a vast array of other fascinating creatures, both large and small.

Our home in this legendary landscape is the Olare Mara Kempinski, an intimate tented retreat that seamlessly blends wild surroundings with refined luxury. Each tent is elevated on a timber platform along the Ntiakitiak River, offering a private vantage point to watch hippos lounging and elephants playing in the water below. Beyond the camp, we’ll explore the Mara’s diverse terrain on spectacular game drives and visit a traditional Maasai village. This is a land that invites a deep sense of belonging; as the saying goes, where a person feels truly at home, outside their birthplace, is where they are destined to be.

As the tallest free-standing mountain in the world, its glacial summit presides over the savannah in a way that feels almost supernatural. During our stay at the beautifully themed Ol Tukai Lodge, we’ll explore the park’s famous marshes and grasslands. Our game drives offer a front-row seat to one of Africa's most significant elephant populations, along with a diverse cast of wildlife including zebras, wildebeest, hyenas, and giraffes, all living in the shadow of the great "Behemoth."
