Nestled within a working coffee plantation, Arusha Coffee Lodge offers a peaceful retreat and the perfect setting to recover after long international flights. With its timeless charm and tranquil atmosphere, it feels like a secluded sanctuary. Although Arusha lies just three degrees south of the equator, its elevation of about 4,500 feet blesses it with cool breezes and lush vegetation. From the veranda of our Plantation Suite, perhaps after a refreshing swim, we’re surrounded by vibrant greenery and treated to views of towering Mount Meru, the 14,977-foot volcanic giant that rises gracefully above this distinctly African city. Later, from the balcony of our elevated lodge in Tarangire, we take in sweeping views of the park’s diverse terrain, rocky ridges, gentle hills, and expansive golden plains scattered with acacia and ancient baobab trees. This remarkable landscape supports an impressive range of wildlife, including more than 2,500 elephants, along with elegant kudu and striking oryx among many other species. A full day in the bush introduces us to Tarangire’s abundant big game and a dazzling array of birdlife flitting through the trees. For those eager to extend the adventure, an optional night drive offers a completely different and often thrilling perspective on the African wilderness.

It’s an incredibly rewarding experience where you can spot everything from prides of lions to the elusive black rhino. We’ll wrap up the day with drinks on the terrace and a meal overlooking one of the most enchanted places on earth.

Our short but breathtaking journey concludes in the heart of the Serengeti. As Cyril Connolly famously noted, these endless plains bring a true "lightening of the spirit." Here, you are immersed in a profound, ancient stillness under a sky so vast and blue it feels untouched by time. To the south, the Crater Highlands of Ngorongoro loom on the horizon, framed by clouds that stack into impossible, cinematic towers. Scattered across the landscape, the Serengeti’s kopjes look like the work of a master sculptor; you might even spot a lion lounging atop a flat boulder, soaking up the sun’s warmth.We’ll spend two peaceful nights at Migration Camp, nestled among rocky outcrops overlooking the Grumeti River. The camp features a multi-level lounge, a pool, and an excellent restaurant. Each of the twenty guest tents is wrapped in its own private deck, a personal front-row seat to the wild spectacle below. For those fascinated by the prehistoric, the Grumeti offers sightings of massive hippo pods and patient crocodiles. It is here that the Great Migration eventually gathers for its dramatic river crossing, where the crocodiles wait with ancient, single-minded focus.
