Wilderness National Park in the Garden Route, South Africa is situated close to the N2 highway, just 15 kilometres from George and 2 kilometres from Wilderness village. it is located 410 kilometres from Port Elizabeth and 450 kilometres from Cape Town. The closest airport is at George, and car hire facilities are available. Please note than when visiting Wilderness Ebb-and-Flow camp, the road sign on the N2 to the Park states 'Wilderness National Park' and not 'Ebb-and-Flow'. Guests can also use the western access through the town of Wilderness, Garden Route, South Africa across the rail road bridge and turn right for the reception. Birding in the area: The area is home to a prolific diversity of birdlife. The series of lakes and rivers attract an abundance of these winged creatures. Birds found in this area include Great Crested and Black-necked Grebe, Little Egret, White-backed Duck, Purple heron, African Rail and the African Goshawk. Mammals in the area: Wilderness National Park not Big Five country, but this should not deter you as it is home to some other equally fascinating wildlife, guaranteeing a rewarding experience. For those lucky enough, Leopard can also be spotted on occasion. Wildlife includes Bushpig and buck, Honey Badger, Clawless Otter, Grysbok, Rock Dassie, Striped Polecat and the Velvet Monkey, to name just a few.
