Bellary Fort is a historical monument in Bellary city, Karnataka. It is a citadel that stands atop Ballari Gudda and was built during the early sixteenth century. It is a spectacular example of the South Indian style of architecture and has various legends associated with it. According to the popular mythological legends, Bellary Fort is the place where Lord Indra killed the demon Balla at this place. Another popular legend states that this fort, during the times of Ramayana, was a cave where Lord Ram, while searching for Devi Sita, met Sugreeva, the king of apes.
