Talakaveri

Talakaveri is a holy village in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is located in Coorg district and is said to be the source of the river Cauvery. This place stands by the side of the Brahmagiri Peak and has a temple that was erected under the reign of the Kodava dynasty. This temple enshrines Goddess Kaveri and also has the temples of Lord Ganesha and Sage Agasthya. There’s an interesting tale behind this. It is said that the River Kaveri was trapped inside the kamandal of Sage Agasthya that was freed by Lord Ganesha. He took the form of a crow and split the kamandal in order to release the flow of the river.

Talakaveri is a pilgrimage site and witnesses a sizable footfall across the year. Since this place is the origin of the River Cauvery, it is thronged by the people on a huge scale. To make the visit rewarding, one should mark the attendance at this place during monsoons. It is the time when the pulchritude of this place is refreshed by the shower of Mother Nature.

Every pilgrimage shrine has its restrictions, rules, and regulations. Therefore, following them is a duty of each visitor/devotee. No leather products are allowed inside the temple of the river Goddess Kaveri.
