Karighatta Temple

Karighatta Temple is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site in the town of Srirangapatna in Mysore. It perches on a hillock known by the name of Karighatta. It got its name because of an elephant. It is said that a raging elephant killed four maidens taking a bath. In order to bring them back to life, a sage known by the name of Kutsamuni performed penance in front of Lord Vishnu to bring them back to life. His prayers were successful and the maidens were bestowed their lives back. Atop the hill, he built a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

2)    This hill has a humongous height of 2,697 feet and is surrounded by the green surroundings that include the gooseberry trees.

3)    The vegetation of this hill is fed by the tributary of the River Cauvery.

4)    The structure of the temple is amazing. It has huge wooden doors carved in an intrigued way.

5)    The main hall is called the wedding hall which is used to perform the wedding ceremony and rituals related to it. According to the belief, the couple taking the seven vows in this mandapa gets blessed from Lord Srinivasa (Lord Vishnu.

6)    The main sanctum of the temple houses the idol of Lord Srinivasa carved out of the black marble and is worshiped daily by the devotees.

Karighatta Temple is a well-known temple and never fails to attract the attention of devotees. This place is visited throughout the year and witnesses a huge footfall during the festival of Vaikuntha Ekadashi.

Watch Out!
There is a stern dress code for entering Karighatta Temple. All devotees are expected to wear decent attire, especially for females that covers them appropriately. Also, no item made up of leather is permitted inside the temple.
