Package Overview

The Thimphu Tshechu Festival is a vibrant and deeply spiritual event celebrated annually in Bhutan's capital city, Thimphu. Tshechu, meaning "tenth day" in Bhutanese, typically refers to the tenth day of a month in the lunar calendar, which marks the birth anniversary of Guru Rinpoche, also known as Padmasambhava—the saint who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. The Thimphu Tshechu specifically commemorates the birthday of Guru Rinpoche. This trip will let you witness the best of Bhutan including beautiful valley of Punakha and Paro.

Festival Highlights:
Masked Dances: The highlight of the Thimphu Tshechu is the series of cham dances performed by monks and sometimes by locals. These dances, accompanied by traditional music, depict stories from Bhutanese history, mythology, and Buddhist teachings. Each dance has a specific meaning and is believed to bring blessings to the spectators.

Thongdrol Unveiling: On the final day of the festival, a large Thongdrol (religious scroll painting) of Guru Rinpoche is unfurled before dawn. It is said that merely witnessing the Thongdrol can cleanse one’s sins and bring good fortune.

Socializing and Shopping: The festival grounds also host market stalls where locals sell handicrafts, traditional clothing, and various local delicacies. It's a bustling scene of commerce and camaraderie.

Tour Highlights:
Immerse yourself in the vibrant and colorful Thimphu Tshechu Festival.
Explore Bhutan’s distinctive culture through visits to farmhouses and excursions to villages.
Discover numerous cultural landmarks such as medieval fortresses (Dzongs), bustling markets, and insightful museums.
Hike to the renowned Taktsang Monastery, nestled on a cliff 900 meters above the valley floor.
