Located in the ancient site of Aihole in north Karnataka, Badigera Gudi is a popular tourist destination which has made its place in the travel itinerary of this place. The Badigera Gudi literally translates as carpenter’s temple and got its name from the carpenter family that initially inhabited this place. The temple was earlier known as Surya Temple and dates back to the 9th century. The temple is dedicated to the Sun God which is clear with the image of the Sun that is projected by the curvilinear tower on the sanctum sanctorum of the temple. Many changes took place in the Badigera Gudi with the passage of time, especially during the 11th and 12th century. A pidha-type shikhara and various other smaller shrines were established during this time. The four central pillars, one mukhamandapa, and twelve pilasters were also removed during this time. Within the precincts of this temple, a porch, a hall, a cell temple, garbhgriha (sanctum sanctorum), and a rekhanagara tower can now be seen.

Best Time To Visit:-
The best time to visit the Badigera Gudi is during the months of October to March when the weather is moderately cold. Summer months should be avoided. Visiting this temple is also advised on all the days that are considered auspicious for the Sun God to get the wishes fulfilled.
