Ravana Phadi Cave Temple

Ravana Phadi Cave Temple needs no special introduction. It is a renowned historical tourists’ destination in Aihole, Karnataka. It is a rock-cut temple that was built in the year 550 A.D under the reign of the Chalukya dynasty. Enshrining Lord Shiva, this temple is one of the oldest and well-preserved historical temples in Aihole that draws the attention of countless tourists.

1)    As per the name, Ravana Phadi Cave Temple is a rock-cut temple in Aihole. The whole temple structure is carved out of a single massive rock.

2)    It stands on a raised platform that is carved out of the rocks. Prominently, this temple is known for its intriguing architecture.

3)    A monolithic structure of Nandi Bull facing the temple can be seen in front of the temple.

4)    Both of the sides of the entrance are installed with the fat-bellied deities.

5)    The interior walls of the temple are adorned with the images of Lord Shiva. He is depicted in various forms like Nataraja, Ardhanarishwara, Gangadhar etc.

6)    The other deities like Goddess Ganga, Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu, and Goddess Parvati are shown in the carvings as well.
