Rang Mahal, Dalhousie is open all the days of a week except Sunday. Rang Mahal is open between 10 AM and 5 PM and inbetween 1-2 PM is closed every day. You need approximately 1 hour to visit the entire mahal premises.

History:
Raja Umed Singh founded Rang Mahal, Dalhousie in the 18th century. In the earlier time, the western part of the palace was used to store royal treasure of that time. Later, Raja Sri Singh built the southern part of the palace. After then the building had to undergo many changes until the State handicrafts Department took the command of this palace. Himachal Emporium is also housed in the building which promotes women embroidery works.
Architecture:
As the building was constructed during the 18th century, its architecture holds a glorious blend of British and Mughal architecture.
The palace also included a huge number of vibrant and ornamental Indian paintings but most of them were taken to the National Museum of Delhi.

How to Reach?
By air – Dalhousie does not include its own airport. So, you need to reach Pathankot Airport (75 km away) which is connected to Indira Gandhi Airport, Delhi. Another nearby airport is Gaggal airport at Kangra, which is 140 km away from Dalhousie.
By bus – Dalhousie is well connected with its nearby hill towns like Pathankot and Chamba. Even several Luxury and Deluxe Volvo buses run from New Delhi which are good to afford.
By train – You need to reach Pathankot railway station (71 km away) as Dalhousie has no railway station. You can ride on a bus or private cab to reach Dalhousie from there.

Other than ancient paintings, there are many other attractions remain in the palace like rumals of Chamba, royal and traditional costumes and jewelry, musical instruments, arms and armor, and several decorative objects.
A few royal rooms have been converted into workshops for the local craftsmen for making embroidery works, shoes, etc. While tourists come to visit rang mahal, Dalhousie, they can watch them working and can also purchase their works.
