Kamala Basti or Kamala Bassadi is a key travel destination in Karnataka. It is a Lotus Jain Temple that stands within the boundary of Belgaum Fort. This fort was built in the year 1209 by Bichirja, a minister in the court of Kartavirya IV of Ratta Dynasty. Kamala Basti (Lotus Jain Temple) is a beautifully carved architectural masterpiece of the bygone era.

It Is Known For:-
1)    Kamala Basti is a Lotus Jain Temple located in the premises of Belgaum Fort.

2)    It is a grandeur that enshrines the 24 Tirthankara in Jainism.

3)    It is renowned for its architecture and is constructed in the Chalukyan style of architecture. This temple has a dome that is well-executed in the form of a lotus flower with 72 petals.

4)    There are two carved pillars inside the temple. One of them carries the Kannada inscriptions belonging to the time of Ratta Kartavirya, whereas, the other carries the inscriptions dating back to the era of Sevuna Yadav clan.

5)    The main sanctum of Kamal Basti houses the idol of Lord Neminath seated on a throne. It is said that the idol of Lord Neminath was founded over 250 years ago.

6)    The exquisitely carved idols of Lord Sumantinath in a standing position, Lord Adinath in the position of Padmasana, and Lord Parshavanath under the shade of the seven-hooded snake can be seen.

7)    The prayers are conducted here on a daily basis.

Kamala Basti is a major tourist spot in Belgaum and is thronged on a huge scale by tourists as well as Jain pilgrims. It can be visited throughout the year but the appropriate time for visiting this site is on the auspicious occasions like Paryushana, Mahavira Jayanti, Diwali, Paurusha Dashmi, and others.

A visitor needs to watch out for the regulations of the temple. No one is allowed to carry mobiles and items made up of leather in the main shrine.
