Named after Colonel Barton, the British representative of Saurashtra, Barton Library & Museum is a remarkable tourist site in Bhavnagar. This library was erected in the 19th century during the colonial rule. It is the abode of more than 60K books and documents in the languages of Hindi, English, Gujarati, and Sanskrit. A section of this library has been transformed into a museum and the original replicas of the artworks of the painters of the then times.
It Is Known For:-
1) Barton Library and Museum is a double-storey building that is built in the gothic style of architecture.
2) It is a home to more than 60K documents that include the books written in Hindi, English, Gujarati, and Sanskrit. All these books provide knowledge about the history, culture, and traditions of entire Gujarat.
3) Apart from the books, it also has a vast collection of the manuscripts, inscriptions, engraved stones, and some handwritten original letters of the freedom fighters that hailed from Saurashtra region of Gujarat.
4) It is visited b the students, researchers, scholars, and tourists as they can gain an insight into all essential domains.
Best Time To Visit:-
Excluding the Mondays and all national festivals & holidays, any day of any season can be chosen for visiting Barton Library and Museum. By paying a minimal sum of fee (for museum entry), one can gain access to the building.
Watch Out!
Clicking the pictures of the exhibits is allowed but no one is allowed to touch them in the museum. If you aren’t carrying an identity proof, entering the library can be tough. Thus, it is recommended that on ID proof should be carried for entering the library.
