The Shardamba Temple, dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, is flocked by devotees from around the country to pay their homage to the deity. Located in the holy town of Sringeri, Karnataka, this temple is one of the most pious locations for the devotees of Goddess Saraswati, who is the Hindu Goddess of knowledge, wisdom, music, art, and learning. Sri Adi Shankaracharya founded this temple in the 8th century, which was later renovated during the 14th-16th centuries under the Vijayanagara Empire. Legends have it that Sri Adi Shankaracharya envisioned this place to be the holiest place in the region as he saw a snake protecting a frog from the sun rays by spreading its fangs as an umbrella. Another belief related to this temple is that the crystal Chandramouleeshwara Linga was gifted to Sri Adi Shankaracharya by Lord Shiva. The main idol in the temple is of Goddess Sharadamba was made in sandalwood initially but then replaced with a gold statue.
