Bhagamandala

Bhagamandala is a sacred site and a tourist attraction in Kodagu. It is situated on the banks of the River Kaveri from where it is joined by two streams, namely Kannike and Sujyoti. The place is known for housing Bhagamandaleshwara Temple. Bhagamandaleshwara Temple is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is said that Dakshin Ganga (Kaveri River) emerged from the dreadlocks of Lord Shiva at this place.

1)    Bhagamandala is known for its sanctity as it enshrines Lord Shiva in the form of Bhagamandaleshwara.

2)    In the previous times, Bhagamandala was occupied by Tipu Sultan and redesigned as Afesalabad. It was annexed by local ruler Dodda Vira Rajendra in Kodagu.

3)    This region is blessed with the beautiful surroundings as it is overlooked by the peaks of the Mount Thavoor and Mount Kopatti. Such beauty makes it an amazing destination for spending a day’s itinerary away from the polluted cities.

4)    The activities of trekking, hiking, and camping can be relished in the region around Bhagamandala.

Bhagamandala is a famous site in Kodagu. Being a religious site in Karnataka, it is thronged by the visitors as well as venture enthusiasts on a large scale. The festival of Maha Shivaratri is celebrated here with a great zeal & pomp that makes it an auspicious day for marking the presence. Apart from this, one can also visit this site between October-March.
